BURIED MEMORIES

July 2016, Naomi F., 22 years old,  student at UNIVERSITY PARIS8 is going for the first time in INDIA in the southern region called KERALA.

​

As she is studying Drama, her goal is to achieve an etnographic work on an indian contemporary theatre. Her mother Sylvie F., is staying in Thrissur since 2014, she has recorded with her camera a lot of cultural events and meet a lot of artists.  One of them is named Jose Koshy. He is directing a company called Invisible lighting Solutions. His main activity is to make lights for shows (drama, dance, exhibitons, private ceremonies...) but he is also producer of drama shows. The last show he produced started with a creation in 2015 and finished in 2017 with 25 performances. Sylvie F. had the chance to record all the steps of this adventure.

Naomi F. joined the company in July 2016 at the 8th performance. She had the chance to follow the troup on  the tour and get an interview of all the members during 3 hours. 

The script of the show written by James Elia is adapted from a book written by TV KOCHUBAVA "Upanyasam",  a story of a nomadic circus group moved into oblivion. 

Circus numbers were very dangerous and surprising, they left in the villagers mind buried memories.

Director Biography

In November 2013 Sylvie F. left a traveling international theater company that she has managed for 16 years to dedicate herself to her own life. She became SILVANO Sissi, the artist who needs to express herself through different cultural activities. Her way took her to Kerala, a region in southern India. She left alone with her camera and computer. There, she will meet a large number of artists and attend a large number of cultural events. She returned to France in July 2017 with the project of making a documentary film. Her daughter Naomi F. , a theater student at Paris8 University, joined her in Kerala in July 2016 to do an etnographic study on an Indian theater company. The documentary has just been finalized in August 2018, it is the fruit of their collaboration, the sharing of their complicity and the pooling of their respective skills. Sylvie F. intends to continue her adventure at KERALA and is working on writing her next project. BURIED MEMORIES is her first short documentary.
